This abstract snail metal sculpture depicts three sizes of snails on a cholla cactus limb. The snails are handmade from three sizes of cut steel nails. Fabrication involves heating and forming the nail into the shell in the shape of a conical helix. Their ocular tentacles are steel rods and their eyes are bronze. The snail foot is smaller steel nails welded together with the shell welded onto the foot and the limb attachment screw welded to the bottom of the foot. All welding is done with oxygen/acetylene gas using steel and bronze rods. The snails are coated with a durable clear finish. The cholla cactus limb is natural and uncoated. This conversations piece will display well in a variety of indoor horizontal locations.
